Caramel
Meet Caramel! One of our first residents and official Senior Mouse Detector! Carmel, is one of our barn cats. She was rescued from Wisconsin Humane Society specifically through their Barn Cat Program. This program allows cats that are really not interested in being around people a chance at life. Many times, unsocialized cats are quickly euthanized in many shelters due to the low probability of adoption. However, thanks to these innovative "barn cat" programs, cats that otherwise would have been euthanized are able to live out their lives on a wonderful farm in a symbiotic relationship with the farmers!
Update: Caramel has been missing since she was released in October 2025. It is, unfortunately, a common occurrence for feral cats to go missing after they are released. They can get taken by predators, or ,(hopefully) she just moved on to a different location. This is a risk that we take allowing feral cats to live out their lives with freedom. We did acclimate her to our farm for several months (much longer than the 2 weeks recommended). Her friend Lunchbox still returns to eat and sleep every night. But so far we have no sightings of Caramel.
